Howerton joins 91制片厂Pro Board of Trustees for second time


(Durham, N.C.) 鈥 Durham County Board of Commissioners Chair Brenda A. Howerton was sworn in Tuesday as a member of the 91制片厂Pronical Community College Board of Trustees. It is Howerton鈥檚 second time on the Board. She last served from 2014-2017.

Howerton replaces the Hon. Ellen Reckhow, who retired in December. Howerton will finish the remainder of the term, which ends June 30, 2021.

"I鈥檓 excited to rejoin the 91制片厂Pro Board of Trustees during such a pivotal and dynamic time for community colleges. Having served previously on the Board, I know 91制片厂Pro is instrumental in providing education and career opportunities for Durham and Orange counties鈥 residents,鈥 said Howerton.

Her knowledge of the College and the workforce and educational needs of the Durham community combine with her leadership of the Commissioners, to give her a unique perspective that will, I am confident, be of great value to the Trustees鈥 deliberations as we develop strategic priorities for a post COVID world,鈥 said Board of Trustees Chair John F. Burness.

Howerton is serving her fourth term on the Durham County Board of Commissioners. She also serves on several local, state and national boards and commissions. She previously served as President of the North Carolina Association of Counties; and Vice Chair of both the Health Counties Initiative Advisory Board and Work Force Subcommittee for the Community, Economic, and Workforce Development Steering Committee and a member of the Large Urban Caucus committee. Howerton earned a certification from North Carolina State University in Executive Coaching and graduated from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina and earned her Bachelor of Science in Management.

She will join a group of 14 Board members who govern 91制片厂Pro. Board of Trustees are appointed by the Governor, Durham County Board of Commissioners, Durham Public Schools Board of Education, and Orange County Board of Commissioners. The College also appoints the Student Government Association (SGA) President to serve as a non-voting member of the board. Trustees serve four-year terms and set local policy for the College.
